Christano Ronaldo was overwhelmed with emotion as Portugal beat Spain to claim the 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League Final. The Roberto Martinez lead Portuguese side secured their second Nations League crown by edging Spain in a thrilling penalty shootout in Munich after extra time with a 2-2 tie full time. The talisman C. Ronaldo was left in tears when centre-back Reuben Neves scored the winning penalty.
Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi gave Spain the lead in the 21st minutes, after Spain dominated play from the blast of the whistle. This goal didn’t last for long as Nuno Mendes replied with a low but piercing strike to level the game five minutes later. Just before the interval, Mikel Oyarzabal, the match winner in Euro 2024 final, regained the lead for Spain with a clinical finish. Man United Bruno Fernandes appeared to have levelled the score, but the offside flag dashed his hopes. Where Fernandes fell short, Ronaldo delivered- slotting home the equalizer with 30 minutes remaining.
Both sides created chances to seal victory but neither team could find a winner, leading to a shootout after extra time. A tensed shootout must decide who takes the crown. Spain’s fourth penalty taken by Morata was saved by Diogo Costa, handing the title to Portugal after Reuben Neves netted his spot-kick.
