Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service. The charges, which stem from complaints made by three separate women, relate to incidents alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. The Metropolitan Police had been investigating the matter since early 2022, with the CPS confirming on July 4, 2025, that Partey now faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Each of the charges involves serious accusations, with two of the rape counts tied to one complainant, and three additional rape charges filed by a second woman. The sexual assault charge involves a third individual. Partey’s legal team has issued a strong denial of all allegations, insisting the player has cooperated fully with investigators and is confident of clearing his name through the legal process.
The 32-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for a reported £45 million, made over 100 appearances during his time with the London club. Despite the initial police investigation in 2022, Partey continued to feature regularly for Arsenal. His contract officially expired on June 30, 2025, and he is no longer affiliated with the Premier League side.
Thomas Partey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2025. As legal proceedings begin, officials have urged the public and media to refrain from speculation or sharing potentially prejudicial information. It remains essential to respect due process and the presumption of innocence while the courts determine the outcome of the case.
